Cerveteri : Michelin's recommendations
The ancient Caere was a powerful Etruscan centre which stood on a hill to the east of the present town of Cerveteri. Caere was renowned as an important cultural and religious centre in the 7C and 6C BC, but began to decline in the 4C when it fell under the control of the Romans. Excavation work carried out in the early 20C has revealed numerous objects, most of which are now displayed at the Etruscan museum in the Villa Giulia in Rome. The splendid necropolis can still be visited.
