Situated in a pleasant location southeast of Rome, Palestrina was one of the favourite summer residences of the Roman emperors. From its rich past, it has retained ruins of a temple dedicated to the goddess Fortuna, as well as many artefacts discovered in the surrounding necropolises, which are now on display in the archaeological museum. In the 16C, Palestrina was the birthplace of the composer of sacred music who took his name from the town.
