Marking the beginning of the Via Sacra, the Arch of Titus has two bas-reliefs under its vaulting recording the emperor’s victory over Jerusalem (70 AD), in honour of which this arch was erected (81AD). On one side, Titus in his chariot is crowned by Victory; on the other is a procession of the booty taken from the temple at Jerusalem.
