It stands at the foot of the Capitoline Hill and was the second basilica to be built in Rome (in 179 B.C.). The remains that you see today date from the 1C building. Like other basilica's of this period, it was not a religious building at all, serving as a court of law and business centre. Today, it is hard to imagine the naves, separated by beautiful, coloured-marble columns. But nevertheless !
