Church of Santa Susanna Recommended Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

Originally erected by Leo III in the 9C and restored in the late 15C by Sixtus IV, the church’s current appearance dates from the 16C. Built between 1595 and 1603, the façade is a masterpiece of balance by Carlo Maderno (1556-1629). A gifted marble craftsman brought to Rome by Fontana, he was inspired by the façade of the church of the Gesù, template of the Counter-Reformation style. Its austere façade features colonnettes and employs the play of light, diffused by niches and pediments.
