This "Trident" central fork is 1,500 m long and links Piazza del Popolo to Piazza Venezia. The Corso is Rome's main commercial thoroughfare. Its name stems from the horse races that Pope Paul II organised there. It is lined with many shops (mainly fashion) and cafés, and has been overrun for centuries by crowds of stylish women. In the past, they were accompanied by their "beau", but today the cellular phone has often taken the place of the latter.
