Agira : Michelin's recommendations
Agira, overlooked by the remains of a castle built during the Swabian period, owed its fame and prosperity to the Basilian monastery of San Filippo, which received substantial revenues from its properties throughout Europe. In 1537, Charles V granted the title of “Royal City” to Agira, which granted the town numerous privileges. However, once the Spanish crown began to experience financial difficulties, Philip IV decided to sell the city to Genoese merchants and Agira gradually fell into decline.
