This 5ha basin dug by Carthaginian prisoners after the Battle of Himera was originally a fishpond. Over time, it has been transformed into a particularly fertile orchard. After years of lying abandoned, Kolymbetra Garden was taken over and managed by the Fondo Ambiente Italiano (Italian National Trust). Nowadays visitors can wander about the olive and fig trees, poplars, mulberries, and orange, lemon and mandarin trees along the paths around the garden.
