This vast urban complex accommodates the ruins of many houses, some of which have retained parts of their geometrically patterned or figurative mosaics. The area is above all remarkable for its grid layout, abiding by the rules set by the Greek town-planner Hippodamos of Milet: the large main streets (or decumani) cross at right angles with the narrower streets.
