Excavations of (Scavi di Morgantina)
Excavations of (Scavi di Morgantina) : Michelin's recommendations
The iron age settlement's name probably came from that of the Morgeti, an Italian people originating from Southern Italy. The town was inhabited until 5 BC when it was moved to Serra Orlando. The excavations have enabled archaeologists to discover remains from this Siculian centre colonised by the Greeks, abandoned as late on as the 1st Century AD. In this small valley, you will be able to see the agora, a small theatre and several mosaics sheltered by a canopy (over the door).
