Birgi Vecchi Interesting : Michelin's recommendations

Mozia was a Phoenician colony, founded in the 8C BC on San Pantaleo, one of the islands of the Stagnone lagoon. Initially a trading post and harbour, the colony gradually grew in importance. Surrounded by ramparts built to keep out the Greeks, the town was taken by the tyrant of Siracusa, Dionysius the Elder, in 397 BC. Its inhabitants sought refuge on the mainland and founded Lilibeo, modern-day Marsala. Mozia was only rediscovered in the late 19C.
