Caltagirone
: Michelin's recommendations
It’s difficult to ignore the fact that Caltagirone is famous for its pottery. Brightly coloured ceramics adorn bridges, balustrades, façades and balconies throughout the town. Earthenware pottery has long been a source of inspiration for local artists, thanks to the abundant deposits of clay in the region. Glazing techniques were introduced by the Arabs, who also influenced the designs used to decorate the pottery. Nowadays the town is home to numerous shops selling examples of this local craft.
