The main street in Cefalù is named in honour of Roger II who ruled over the town during its most prosperous period. Directly overlying the ancient Roman decumanus, it splits the town into two areas: to the west, a maze of narrow streets dotted with steps, arches and narrow passageways; to the east, a network of streets arranged in a grid layout.
