Enna is famous both for its superb location and for its rich history. During Roman times, the town was the site of the First Slave War; it later became an emblem of Byzantine resistance against the Arabs, and then the capital of the Norman kingdom. The town boasts a number of fine churches and works of art and is also renowned for its colourful Holy Week processions.
