Occupying a magnificent site near Capo Bianco, the ruins of the Ancient Greek city of Heraclea Minoa were discovered in the 1950s. The name of the city is thought to be linked to the story of Minos, king of Crete, who, according to legend, followed Daedalus to Sicily in order to punish him for having helped Ariadne and Theseus escape from the maze. Visitors to the site can also take time to enjoy its long, white sandy beach.
