Dominated by its fortress, the island's capital overlooks two bays, both of which are used as harbours (Marina Lunga and Marina Corta). The lower town of Lipari is perfect for a relaxing stroll, with its narrow alleyways, small shops and restaurants, while the citadel (known as the “castello”) offers fine views of the town and sea. Nowadays, the town’s main industry is tourism.
