Above the town there are the Greek acropolises, then the Arab fortifications to which have been added other ramparts: a Spanish rampart, then an Aragonese rampart with five conical topped towers. Inside is the castle built by Frederick II. In the great hall with five bays, the Sicilian Parliament met in 1295. From the ramparts which look over the sea, is an attractive view over the Aeolian Islands.
