Montalbano Elicona : Michelin's recommendations

This village, perched in the Nebrodi mountains at an altitude of 900m, is the starting point for many walks in the region. It is overlooked by a castle built by Frederick II of Swabia, who later ordered its destruction in 1232 during the Guelph Revolt. Frederick II of Aragon converted the castle ruins into an elegant fortified residence in the 14C. There are fine views of the surrounding area from the rampart walk.
