Noto : Michelin's recommendations

Noto was built following the 1693 earthquake which destroyed the old town situated 10km away. The new city was divided into three districts: the nobility in the upper town, the clergy in the middle, and the working class in the lower town. The reconstruction was organised by the Duke of Camastra who commissioned some of the best Sicilian artists to come and work here. As a result, Noto boasts a harmonious blend of Baroque architecture which makes it a real urban gem.
