Piana degli Albanesi : Michelin's recommendations

This town was founded in the 16C by Albanian refugees who had been expelled from the Balkans by the Turks. They reached Sicily and Piana degli Albanesi (which translates as the “Plain of the Albanians”) where they were allowed to practise their faith in accordance with the Greek Orthodox church. Sicilian Albanians have retained their traditions, language and literature and form a very vibrant community.
