Santa Lucia del Mela : Michelin's recommendations
This village, 13km south of Milazzo, is overlooked by the remains of its castle, built by the Arabs in the 9C and later remodelled by the Swabians and Aragonese. Today, all that remains is a massive round tower and a ruined triangular bastion. Santa Lucia is also known for its very beautiful churches.

Inside a surrounding wall of the old castle, this sanctuary with corner and arcaded windows in two-coloured stone, contains an attractive Madonna of the Snows by Antonello Gagini.
Piazza del Duomo
Dating from the 17C, this is interesting for the elegant Renaissance doorway topped by an eagle, symbol of royal protection, and a lunette sculpted in a low-relief depicting the Virgin surrounded by St Agatha and St Lucy.
The church features a lava rock bell-tower (15C) with three rows of ogive windows and a doorway from 1587, sculpted with fine bas-reliefs surrounding a lunette depicting the Annunciation decorated with plant motifs.
