Selinunte Recommended Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

Selinus, founded in the 7C BC and for a long time allied to Carthage against Segesta, was finally destroyed... by a Carthaginian, Hannibal, in 409 BC, who indulged in fierce repression, resulting in the slaughter of 16 000 inhabitants of the town. However, the city rose again but was finally destroyed during the Second Punic War. Today, it is an area of ruins with four distinct zones: the acropolis, the old town, the Eastern temples and the Demeter sanctuary.
