The Magnisi peninsula was the site of an important prehistoric civilisation around the 15C BC. The discovery of Maltese-style Mycean pottery is an indication that Thapsos was a major trading centre.

SS 114 I - 96010 Thapsos
The excavations have revealed circular plan huts from the 15C and 14C BC. Cisterns and a water canal are still visible on the site. Further on is a necropolis which has 450 tombs in small artificial caves.
