Stintino began its life as a sad and lonely place of exile. Here, on this narrow arm of the sea originally called s’isthintinu, or "trench", from which it takes its current name, is where around 40 fishermen of Ligurian origin and their families decided to settle in the 19C, having been expelled from the Cala d'Oliva, on the Isola dell'Asinara. Today Stintino is a sublime microcosm with its two marinas – Portu Mannu and Portu Minori – and its endless beaches.
