Mort Shuman may have sung about "the snow on Lake Maggiore", but the exceptionally mild climate here has made this a favourite holiday destination. The Strada Statale 34 road skirting the west bank of the lake and its resorts full of luxuriant vegetation offer a rare environment blending a Mediterranean climate and the mountains. The breathtaking 360° view from the Mottarone and its snowy slopes provides a panorama over the sublime archipelago of the Borromeo Islands.Customise this route and add it to My travel book
