S. Nicola (Basilica of St Nicholas)
S. Nicola (Basilica of St Nicholas)
: Michelin's recommendations
The monk Augustine St Nicholas died in Tolentino in 1305 and was buried in the crypt of this sanctuary built from 1305 to the 18C, hence its composite appearance. A doorway in the late Gothic style, by Nanni Bartolo (disciple of Donatello), a luxurious decor of gold, marble and stucco and the frescoes in the great chapel of St Nicholas (School of Rimini, 14C), are the most remarkable parts of this basilica.
