: Michelin's recommendations
Trani is justly proud of its Romanesque cathedral. The 11C-13C cathedral is dedicated to St Nicholas the Pilgrim, a humble Greek shepherd who, according to legend, arrived in Trani on the back of a dolphin. The fine bronze door, cast in 1180, leads into an interior with a strong Norman influence. The nave and aisles are built on two immense crypts, the lower of which is a forest of ancient columns. The upper church is well lit but rather severe in style, with slender twin columns.
