Trent
: Michelin's recommendations
Trento, the capital city of Trentino located on the Adige near the Brenta Mountains, is at the meeting point of Germanic and Italian influences and a major communications crossroads between the Brenner Pass, Brescia and Venice. It was governed by prince-bishops from 1004 to 1801. The city is best known for having hosted the Council of Trent (1545-63) which marked the beginning of the Counter-Reformation, the movement against Protestantism.
