Tracing the history of art from the Middle Ages to the Baroque, the museum has around 70 000 objects (pictures, sculpture, ceramics, goldware etc). Located in Palazzo Madama, it has undergone extensive restoration and reopened its doors in 2006. The new layout incorporates discoveries made during the works – Roman foundations and medieval pavements – and allows for more pictures to be displayed. The masterpieces of the museum are displayed in the Torre Tresori (treasure tower).
