Carmignano : Michelin's recommendations

This little town is surrounded by vineyards and olive trees and dominated by the single tower of its medieval castle. San Michele church houses a magnificent Visitation, a masterpiece by Jacopo Carrucci, who was known as Il Pontormo (1494-1556). Pontormo was a pupil of Andrea del Sarto and was famous for his tortured style and watered-down colours.
