Concealed among semi-derelict medieval fortifications dominating the city, this Renaissance castle (15C-16C) belonged to the Malaspina, a powerful family which ruled the city until the 18C, who built as their residence the Palazzo Cybo Malaspina, which today houses the prefecture.
