The 16C church of this sanctuary dedicated to Mary incorporates the chancel of an earlier Romanesque edifice. It has thereby ensured that a fresco of the Assumption in the apse and the Virgin altarpiece by Margaritone of Arezzo (13C) could both be kept in their original setting – an ancient focus of popular devotion.
