Nestling at the foot of the Apennines, Pistoia is well worth a visit in summer for its Blues Festival and the traditional Bear Joust (Giostra dell’Orso). Although at first sight an industrial town, Pistoia surprises visitors with its old centre, a network of narrow streets and alleyways clustered around the medieval Piazza del Duomo which is one of the most delightful squares in Italy. Its stone buildings and picturesque shops make this little-known town a pleasant place for a stroll.
