The town’s main monuments are its walls, which still encircle it, and the famous casa torre (tower houses) which have earned it the nickname ""San Gimignano dalle belle torri"". Of the 72 tower houses that existed in the Middle Ages, only 15 remain, although it is easy to imagine them, decorated with the valuable saffron-coloured fabrics that this town alone was able to produce. Although a victim of its own success and visited by millions of tourists, it has still retained its magical atmosphere.
