San Quirico d'Orcia Interesting : Michelin's recommendations

Still surrounded by ramparts and monumental gateways, San Quirico owed its prosperity in the Middle Ages to its strategic position on the Via Francigena which passed through the Orcia valley, linking Rome to the wealthy regions of Northern Europe. This illustrious past can still be seen in the magnificent Collegiata and the Festa del Barbarosa (third Sunday in June) which commemorates the fact that Emperor Frederick Barbarossa received emissaries from Pope Adrian IV here in 1154.
