Sovana : Michelin's recommendations

This village became famous when one of its sons, Ildebrando da Sovana, was elected pope in 1073, under the name of Gregory VII. Sovana has preserved several traces of its illustrious past along its brick-paved and herringbone-shaped main street, such as the Romanesque church of Santa Maria (with its frescoes and 9C ciborium) and the cathedral.
