Urbino : Michelin's recommendations

This pink-bricked town is the birthplace of the artist Raffaello Sanzio, better known as Raphael. Built on two hills and surrounded by ramparts, it overlooks undulating countryside bathed in golden light. Today a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Urbino enjoyed its golden age under the reign of Duke Federico da Montefeltro (1444-82), a condottiere, man of letters and patron of the arts.
