Castello e giardino di Miramare Recommended Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

The castle, built in 1860 to plans by the architect Carl Junker, stands on the point of a headland overlooking the coast of Trieste. It was intended for Archduke Maximilian of Austria, executed in Mexico in 1867, and his wife Princess Charlotte of Belgium, who died insane. The furniture and interior decoration are original. The lovely terraced gardens, designed by the Archduke himself, are also open to the public.
