The picturesque town of Spello, which unfurls around Santa Maria Maggiore Church (11C-12C) is a stone's throw from Assisi. On the left transept, the Baglioni Chapel still boasts the finest frescoes by Bernardino di Betto, also known as Pinturicchio, depicting the Annunciation, the Birth of Jesus and Preaching in the Temple (wall), as well as the sibyls (vault). On either side of the high altar there are frescoes by Il Perugino. Note also the Deruta majolica paving.
