Arashiyama
: Michelin's recommendations
The imperial court of the Heian period (794-1192) liked to take their leisure in Arashiyama, along the banks of the Katsura River. The district's popularity has not waned, and it is now Japanese tourists who visit - in droves - during holidays. They tend to congregate around Togetsukyo Bridge, before heading to Tenryu-ji (14C) and Daikaku-ji (9C) temples or the villa of Okochi Denjiro, a 1930s film star. If you feel like leaving dry land, take a trip down the rapids of the Hozu River on a traditional flat-bottomed boat.
