Dazaifu : Michelin's recommendations
Located 15km southeast of Fukuoka on Kyushu island, Dazaifu houses one of the many Tenmangu shrines dedicated to Sugawara Michizane. Built in the 10C and reworked in the 16C in the Momoyama style, Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine has a decidedly more recent neighbour in the guise of the sumptuous Kyushu National Museum, which was inaugurated in 2005!
