Koraku-en Garden
Koraku-en Garden
: Michelin's recommendations
Koralu Garden occupies a sandbank in the heart of Asahi River, which meanders through the park, getting slowed down in the marsh and then escaping via the waterfalls. Paddy fields, tea plantations, cypress and cherry tree woods, teahouses with the water lapping at their foundations, countless other touches and idiosyncrasies (eg shrines, Noh theatre, an aviary) make this garden, commissioned by the feudal lord Ikeda Tsunamasa in 1700, one of the three greatest in Japan.
