The puppets used in this traditional style of theatre, bunraku, differ from ours in terms of their large size, the sophistication of their costumes, and the expressive range of their faces, which have eloquent and carefully drawn features. The stories they recount are inspired by legends and major historical events. Born in the 17C in Osaka, this art has lost none of its originality and the National Bunraku Theatre faithfully perpetuates the tradition.
