Shin-Hotaka Onsen is a spa town with numerous hot springs, and renowned for its cable car, the longest in Asia, which takes you up to 2 156m above sea level to the foot of Mt Nishi-Hotaka (2 909m). From this vantage point, you can enjoy a magical panoramic view over the Japan Alps. A 3hr walk starts at the cable car station and takes you to Kamikochi.
