Shuzenji
: Michelin's recommendations
The branches of weeping cherry trees dangle over the impetuous Katsura River, which is straddled by little red-varnished bridges. Strolling along the enchanting banks, you come across a bamboo gazebo housing a legendary hot spring (41°C) – it was the first to be discovered. In Shuzenji, time slows down to a voluptuous, romantic pace as you go from ablutions in the thermal baths to magical nights in the delightful hotels, a favourite getaway of great Japanese writers. Shuzenji offers plenty to edify the souls of poets and walkers alike.
