The spectacular Edo-Tokyo Museum, whose design is inspired by the traditional Japanese rice loft, is home to a striking collection that recounts the history of Tokyo from its very beginnings. Children can have their photo taken in rickshaws or sedan chairs. There are also painstaking reproductions of homes of samurai and craftsmen, replicas of kabuki theatres, the old red-light district and emblematic monuments such as the Nihonbashi Bridge. A lively museum that constitutes a good introduction to a visit to Tokyo, or Edo as it was called in the olden days.
