Roppongi Hills Recommended Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

Tokyo, which is on a par with Shanghai when it comes to architecture of gigantic proportions, has a liking for shopping complexes housed in skyscrapers. Roppongi Hills is a foremost example, with its innovative design esplanades, shops, cinemas, museums and a few gardens in an attempt to humanise the cold ambience. Maman, the giant spider created by Louise Bourgeois, observes the crowd from the foot of the Mori Tower, a 54-floor monster with panoramic views. The Tokyo Tower, an orange replica of the Eiffel Tower, affords an alternative view over Tokyo. In this riot of modernism, the Zojo-ji shrine is a reminder of Tokyo's previous, more spiritual, ambitions.
