Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
: Michelin's recommendations
Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, which became the imperial garden after 1906, brings together several distinct styles. Next to a Japanese garden, in the "stroll garden" category developed in the urban environment, you will find an English landscape garden and a French formal garden laid out around a promenade of plane trees dotted with rose bushes. Further north, some 2 000 plants grow in a tropical greenhouse. Shinjuku Gyoen is also where the Prime Minister holds his annual hanami, a garden party organised for guests to contemplate (mi) the blossom (hana) of the cherry trees (sakura) in spring.

A lovely spot for a walk in peaceful surroundings. Popular for picnics but note that alcohol is not allowed. On public holidays entry to the park is free. No litter to be seen anywhere. Lots of loos.
Cons
Entry fee but its worth it. Check which days it is closed.
