Tsumago Interesting : Michelin's recommendations

The Nakasendo, the old highway that linked Edo to Kyoto via the Kiso Valley, was dotted with post towns, of which Tsumago was one. Technological progress (rail and road) meant that the village was destined to fall into anonymity, and in the end this proved to be no bad thing as Tsumago is now a pretty, well-preserved village and has found a new vocation. Its carefully restored houses, superb forest landscape and the installation of a substantial tourist infrastructure have made it into a popular destination.
