To the north of the Rift Valley, the freshwater Lake Baringo (covering an area of approximately 170km2) is home to a multitude of birds (herons, egrets etc) which will be of great interest to ornithologists. Hippopotami and crocodiles are also found in the lake. It’s worth taking a boat trip on the lake, which is dotted with a number of small islands.
